History Of Man, Luke Castellan¹ - Always An Angel, Never A God (1)

Was I reckless to help?
Was it obvious to everybody else?
That I'd fallen for a lie.
You were never on my side.

(...ARE YOU READY FOR IT?)

Troy will hate Helen all over again.

Darcy Night falls through the shadows of her mother's past when she's six. Look, she knows she's weird, okay? Being dyslexic, having ADHD, and getting kicked out of more schools than she can count has her knowing. Plus, there's the fact that when her half-sister starts school, everything goes completely normal. No issues whatsoever. She has to be the problem, honestly. That means that whatever is wrong with her has to come from her dad, and her mother isn't all that joyous to mention anything about him.

See, Isabella Night met The Mysterious Man once upon a time at a bonfire honoring some Greek God or whatever – that's what Darcy knows. Good old Essex knows how to throw a party, at least. Either way, Isabella hooked up with The Mysterious Man, and after that she never saw him again. Darcy thinks it's an asshole move to impregnate a woman and leave her with nothing in terms of child support. Because her mother has tried to find him again. Honestly, it makes her sad for her mother that this dickhe*d can't even attempt to reach out.

Right up until Darcy begins seeing a three-headed dog following her everywhere she goes. That's when her problems actually begin manifesting. Lucy Gray wants to pet the dog, but according to her sister, the dog only has one head. Not three. Which is so great, because that means she's probably hallucinating. (No eight-year-old should think they're hallucinating a dog, by the way.) The point is, well, she has no point, really.

But then her mother comes out with the truth that seems like complete bullsh*t, because who the hell does her mother think she is? Darcy doesn't believe in God or any of those Greek Gods, not the way her mother did once upon a winter solstice. Yet that is what her mother wants her to believe. That a Greek God knocked Isabella Night up. Like, really?

Hades claims her before she even gets told the full story of demigods – which results in a thunderstorm that lasts for longer than a week, no breaks.

The events that follow, well, maybe Darcy would've preferred her father leaving her alone for all time. Because between being forced into a sort of summer camp, jumping between cabins as no one is really interested in having her as their cabin roommate, and learning what it means to be a demigod, Darcy doesn't have time for Luke Castellan and his charming smile. Honestly, who does he think he is looking like that? Charmer. She can't stand it.

At seventeen, Darcy finally gets a glimpse of another who doesn't fit in the same way she doesn't fit in, first at a field trip with Lucy Gray, then at Camp Halfblood. At least this kid's lucky enough to not have been claimed before even getting to the camp, so people will treat him a bit nicer at first. She makes it her personal mission to get him to feel welcome, though, which makes it a battle between her and Luke. Lucky her that Percy Jackson clings to her like they're siblings, while Luke has to settle for being called a friend – take that, pretty boy!

Okay look, being the forbidden daughter of the Lord of the Underworld might work out in her favor when everything goes downhill, but she does know her fate. She's always known her fate, from the moment Isabella Night told her about the Greek Gods and Goddesses.

You want the acclaim, the mother of mothers. (It's not worth it, Achilles)
